Hyderabad: Four women were killed and several passengers injured after a private travels bus carrying mourners overturned on the Ananthagiri ghat road in Vikarabad district on Saturday morning.The passengers, residents of Kesaram village in Patancheru mandal of Sangareddy district, were travelling to Chintakunta village in Dharur mandal to attend the funeral of a relative, when the accident occurred.The deceased were identified as Rajendla Prameela (53), Athelli Yadamma (52), Mala Padma (50) and Athelli Padmamma (55).Police said the bus, carrying around 50 passengers, lost control and overturned on the ghat road. Many passengers sustained injuries, with at least one person reported to be in a critical condition.The impact left many passengers trapped inside the overturned vehicle. Local residents rushed to the spot on hearing cries for help and joined rescue efforts before police and emergency teams arrived. The injured were later shifted to the Vikarabad govt hospital in ambulances.Preliminary investigations suggest a possible brake failure. The driver, identified as Kumar, reportedly fled the scene soon after the accident. Police have launched a search for him and are probing the cause of the accident.Vikarabad district superintendent of police Sneha Mehra instructed officials to ensure immediate medical care for the injured and regulate traffic on the busy ghat road. “We are taking steps to shift those who suffered serious injuries to super-speciality hospitals,” the SP said.The state govt announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh each to those who suffered serious injuries. “A case has been registered against the travels company and the driver. We will take strong action against those responsible,” minister D Sridhar Babu said.Police registered a case against the private travels operator and the bus driver.
