HYDERABAD: Twenty-two BRS MLAs, including party working president KT Rama Rao and former minister T Harish Rao, were suspended from the Telangana Assembly for the rest of the session on Tuesday following protests over the alleged mistreatment of women members by police.The issue resurfaced in the House on Wednesday, with minister Adluri Laxman objecting to the ‘purification’ of the area outside BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse at Erravalli in Siddipet district, where SC groups had staged a protest a day earlier.Laxman said the act of sprinkling turmeric water to ‘purify’ the area amounted to an insult to Dalits and demanded a discussion in the House. Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka also condemned the act, saying that “feudal tendencies” would not be tolerated.The remarks triggered fresh protests by BRS members, who raised slogans demanding an apology for the alleged police misbehaviour with women legislators. Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar said members could raise the issue if they submitted it in writing and questioned the propriety of BRS members standing in front of the Speaker and raising slogans.
