The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will complete 100 years in 2028 and plans to form a committee to organise year-long celebrations. The topic was brought up for discussion during the final phase of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) by an influential administrator and the office bearers unanimously agreed on grand celebrations, commencing in December 2027.“The General Body has initiated the process for the BCCI centenary celebrations in 2028. The centenary will be celebrated through a year-long programme, commencing in December 2027 continuing through 2028, marking a landmark milestone in the history of Indian Cricket.” read the media advisory. The administrator argued that the BCCI should think globally about the celebrations because of the role it has played in the growth of cricket in different regions.“We are talking about the BCCI. 100 years is no ordinary feat. It deserves the grandest celebration which needs careful consideration. Not a one-off affair. We should think about taking it global and plan as early as December 2027,” the administrator told the gathering at the BCCI Headquarters on Friday. In addition to the centenary celebrations, the BCCI decided that the 2027 edition of the Indian Premier League — the cash-rich league’s 20th — will also be celebrated grandly.“The General Body unanimously took a call to celebrate the upcoming 20th edition of IPL in 2027 in a grand way,” read another statement in the ten-point advisory.
