Hyderabad: A fire gutted a house in Bandivada village of Doulatabad mandal, Vikarabad, on Saturday morning, reducing nearly ₹20 lakh in cash to ashes, police said as claimed by occupants.The blaze broke out around 9.30 am at the residence of Bandi Anjappa, a farmer and was brought under control within about half an hour after fire services reached the spot.CI Kodangal Chandrashekhar Reddy, who visited the scene, said police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. “Some currency notes with Rs 500 denomination are completely burnt while others are partially burnt. We are examining all possibilities, including electrical fault in the panel as claimed by occupants, and will establish the reason after collecting evidence and recording statements,” he added.Besides cash, the fire also damaged furniture, clothes and other household items. Officials added that the burnt makeshift house was adjacent to farmland and was part of a newly-built cluster in the village. It was quickly engulfed in the flames, giving the residents little time to salvage valuables. A fire accident case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
