Hyderabad to get more animal care centres | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: The city is set to expand its network of animal care centres to strengthen the sterilisation and vaccination of stray dogs, with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) planning to establish two new facilities and the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) deciding to revive a defunct centre in Nizampet. The city currently has five animal care centres — Fathullaguda, Begum Bazar (Chudibazar), Amberpet (Patelnagar), Kukatpally (KPHB Colony), and Jeedimetla (Mahadevpur) catering to stray dog sterilisation and vaccination requirements. The proposed additions are expected to augment the existing infrastructure and help civic bodies intensify efforts to manage the stray dog population. The GHMC is planning to establish new animal care centres at Katedan and Shamshabad, while the CMC intends to utilise the existing but non-functional facility at Nizampet.“We are doubling the existing capacity of the Mahadevpur Animal Care Centre from 210 kennels, while the defunct centre in Nizampet would be revived within six months,” said an official in the veterinary wing, CMC. Meanwhile, a GHMC official said the animal care centre at Katedan is under construction and is expected to perform 70–80 sterilisation surgeries once it becomes operational.
