Bomb scare on Ahmedabad-Hyd flight turns out to be prank by 12-year-old

Hyderabad: A mid-air prank by a 12-year-old girl on an Ahmedabad-Hyderabad flight on Saturday put security personnel at the Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport on high alert. The girl, a class VII student, was returning to Hyderabad after a school trip to Gujarat when she casually told one of her schoolmates that there was a bomb onboard. This was heard by one of the cabin crew members who immediately informed the captain.Ground authorities were immediately alerted about a possible threat to the aircraft and all officials were put on high alert. The entire aircraft was checked once it landed at around 7.45 am at Hyderabad but no explosive was found.Police officers told TOI that the girl was travelling with 45 other students and three teachers of a private school from Quthbullapur. About 10 minutes before the flight was to land, the cabin crew heard the girl say, “There is a bomb on the flight.”Following protocol, the aircraft was moved to an isolation bay once it landed and passengers were made to disembark. CISF personnel and police then carried out thorough anti-sabotage checks of the aircraft and the luggage. “We did not find any suspicious objects,” said B Kiran Kumar, inspector at the RGI Airport outpost.Officials added that the girl, a businessman’s daughter, was counselled through her teachers. “Since the incident involved a minor, no complaint was lodged and no case was registered,” the inspector said. All passengers and students were allowed to leave with their luggage after security screening.
