Telangana police arrest drug supplier after seven-day hunt in Goa

Hyderabad: A day after Basharath Ahmed and two others were arrested by EAGLE sleuths in Goa, police revealed that Ahmed, a native of Jammu and Kashmir who is involved in the jewellery business there, was operating an organised drug supply network from Goa.Acting on information that Ahmed was playing a key role in supplying drugs to people from Telangana while evading the police, officials dispatched a team to apprehend him. It took the team seven days to track him down. Police eventually arrested him after he stepped out of an area in North Goa considered his stronghold.Unaware that Ahmed’s associate, Priteesh Narayan Borkar, was accompanying him, the police apprehended both men and took them to a local police station in Goa. Before the arrests, decoy teams had been sent to their hideout to confirm Ahmed’s presence. However, the officials decided against raiding the house directly due to security concerns.“The house from where Basharath and his associates operate is heavily secured, and access is restricted. Anyone seeking to buy drugs is frisked and their details are verified before they are allowed to meet Basharath or his associates,” EAGLE officials said.Investigators said that Borkar was allegedly using an old Nokia keypad phone to avoid drawing attention, while the duo conducted transactions in cash instead of accepting payments through UPI. Ahmed is allegedly both a drug user and a supplier. Telangana police had been looking for him for the past four years in connection with cases registered against Borkar, officials said.Preliminary investigations revealed that Ahmed and Borkar, who allegedly operated as a team, procured drugs from two suppliers — one based in Mumbai and the other a Nigerian national based in Goa.“Through word of mouth among drug users, Priteesh and Basharath established themselves as reliable suppliers in Goa. After developing contacts with several people, the two accused began supplying drugs to customers across the country,” officials said.Police seized 13 LSD blots, eight ecstasy pills and 100 grams of charas from the accused. The seized drugs were valued at approximately Rs 1.50 lakh.
