‘This is your time’: PM Modi tells Chennai students to think big, take Tamil culture to the world | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged students in Chennai to develop innovative solutions to global challenges and carry Tamil culture wherever they go. Addressing the golden jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, he said the ideas of young Indians would shape the future of both the country and the world.“The new ideas and solutions needed for a developed India will not only shape the future of India but also of the world. Today the world is looking for solutions, and you have the potential to provide these solutions. There is infinite opportunity in India today. I want every youth to see his future on the same big canvas because this is your time. This is your opportunity. I have full faith that this dream of ours will be fulfilled. Together we will do it,” PM Modi said.The Prime Minister urged students to dream big, expand their horizons and pursue their ideas fearlessly. He expressed confidence that their efforts would help India achieve its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
PM Modi invokes Tamil culture and heritage
The Prime Minister highlighted Tamil Nadu’s cultural and spiritual heritage during his address. Referring to the first day of Navratri, he described his visit to the state and his interaction with students as a positive beginning to the auspicious occasion.“Today marks the first day of Navratri—a sacred land of Shiva and Shakti. The privilege of visiting Tamil Nadu and the opportunity to meet the devotees of Goddess Saraswati make for a wonderful beginning to Navratri for me. I also witnessed the enthusiasm of my young friends; I can truly feel this positive energy and excitement,” PM Modi added.He also praised the ancient Tamil classic Tirukkural, describing it as a valuable guide for those committed to learning throughout their lives. He recalled gifting the work to Russian President Vladimir Putin.Referring to his association with Kashi, his parliamentary constituency, PM Modi invoked Tamil poet Subramania Bharati’s message of fearlessness. He encouraged students to act boldly, turn their ideas into action and remain open to new knowledge.
From global economic power to hosting the Olympics
PM Modi outlined India’s ambitions, including becoming one of the world’s three largest economies, emerging as a global manufacturing hub and sending an Indian to the Moon. He expressed confidence that collective efforts would help the country realise these goals.The Prime Minister also referred to India’s sporting ambitions. He said the country was working towards hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games and pursuing its ambition to stage the 2036 Olympic Games.
Growth in higher education
The Prime Minister highlighted the expansion of higher education since 2014. He said the number of universities had increased from 750 to more than 1,300, while colleges had grown from 38,000 to over 52,000.He encouraged students to remain curious and continue learning, stressing the importance of education, innovation and new ideas in building a developed India.
‘Make in India’, ‘vocal for local’ benefiting Tamil Nadu
Earlier in the day, PM Modi said India’s overall progress depended on the development of its states. He reaffirmed the Centre’s focus on strengthening manufacturing, infrastructure and job creation, highlighting the role of Tamil Nadu in the country’s industrial growth.

“We need to strengthen the states to strengthen the nation, and therefore, the central government is promoting manufacturing in states like Tamil Nadu. The campaigns of the central government, be it ‘Make in India’ or ‘Vocal for Local’, are benefiting Tamil Nadu as well,” he said.The event marked 50 years of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School and its contribution to education in Tamil Nadu.
