One of the clips shows Nana talking about shooting an episode of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ with Big B, taken from an interview with NDTV. Another video shows him singing ‘Main Zindagi Ka Saath Nibhata Chala’ while sitting on the KBC hot seat. Amitabh also shared the same videos on his Instagram stories.
How Nana Patekar died
Nana suffered a severe cardiac arrest at his home in Goa. Reports say he felt uneasy in the early hours and called a friend, after which he was taken to Manipal Hospital. Doctors reportedly tried to revive him for around 45 minutes.
Journey to Pune
His mortal remains were then taken to Pune. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid his respects at the airport. The body was later taken by road to the family farmhouse in Donje village.
Funeral with state honours
Political leaders, film personalities and more than 1,000 admirers attended the last rites. His body was draped in the Tricolour, and a marching band walked with the procession. Female police officers fired a 21-gun salute. Many fans had reached the venue in the afternoon and waited for hours. Chants of “Nana Patekar amar rahe!” rang out as people said their final goodbye.
Who attended
Those present included Maharashtra Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, Union Ministers Murlidhar Mohol and Ramdas Athawale, and state ministers Chandrakant Patil, Uday Samant and Madhuri Misal. Actors Jackie Shroff, Pravin Tarde and Kiran Yadnyopavit were also there.
Arrangements for the crowd
To handle the big gathering, organisers set up a raised platform for the funeral pyre, a tent for dignitaries, barricades for crowd control and a large screen for the public. Several shops and establishments in and around Khadakwasla stayed shut to allow the procession to pass smoothly.
