Govt sanctions Rs 1,108 cr for Omkareshwara temple under Musi revamp plan

Hyderabad: The state govt has sanctioned ₹1,108.27 crore for the development of the Sri Omkareswara Swamy temple complex at Manchirevula village in Gandipet mandal, positioning it as a key spiritual and tourism landmark under the Musi rejuvenation project.The metropolitan area and urban development department issued GOs approving ₹948.64 crore for the temple complex and ₹159.62 crore for a six-lane approach road and connectivity infrastructure linking the temple to the surrounding road network.The project is being developed as part of the larger Musi riverfront development initiative, which aims to promote cultural and spiritual tourism alongside urban infrastructure development along Musi river.“As part of the project, it is proposed to develop the temple precinct comprising the main Sri Omkareswara Swamy temple, associated with sub-shrines of Sri Veerabhadra and Bhadrakali temple, Sri Lalitha Maha Tripurasundari Devi temple, Sri Bala Ganapathy Swamy temple and Sri Bala Subramanya Swamy temple, together with maha mandapam, Nandi mandapam, prakarams, raja gopurams, yagasala, pushkarini, an iconic Shiva statue and other associated facilities,” the GO said.According to the govt, the preliminary estimate includes ₹598 crore for temple architectural works and ₹349 crore for civil and structural works, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and allied facilities.In addition to the temple complex, the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd has proposed the construction of a 30-metre (100 ft) wide six-lane HMDA master plan road connecting the temple complex with the Musi riverfront road network. The proposed 2.5-km stretch will run from Istana Villas to Keerthi West Wind Villas at Manchirevula and provide connectivity to the temple, adjoining Greyhounds land and the Young India Police School.The estimated cost of the road project, including pavement, drainage, retaining and protection works, culverts, street lighting, road safety measures and related infrastructure, has been pegged at ₹159.62 crore.The govt has also constituted a technical committee to oversee implementation of the project. The committee will be headed by the engineer-in-chief, roads & buildings, while the engineer-in-chief, public health, will serve as co-chairperson. Chief engineer of MRDCL will act as a convener.The committee has been tasked with providing technical guidance and approvals for designs, drawings, DPRs and estimates, finalising rates for specialised temple architecture, stone carving and sculptural works, and examining tendering, execution and any changes in scope during implementation of the project, the GO added.
