The actor recently sat down with The Sunday Times to discuss his memoir, ‘One Helluva Ride.’ During one of the segments of the interview, Douglas candidly confirmed that he and Jones were separated for some time in 2013 and recalled what had happened between the two and how they found their way back to each other. When he was asked about how he “won” her back, Douglas answered, “What, I won her back? It was mutual.” The 82-year-old star continued, “You know, we had our problems, but I love her dearly, and 25 years, you know. I mean, I don’t know about your marital status, but marriage is a lot of work, you know. And so, you know, we’re good. We’re in good shape. It’s all I can say.”
What happened between Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas?
At the time, Catherine had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and depression and, in 2013, had checked herself into a rehabilitation facility. Douglas, on the other hand, had been dealing with his own cancer diagnosis since 2010. After their brief split, Douglas also made questionable comments about his cancer and Jones in an old interview, which he later publicly apologised for in another 2015 interview with The Event. At the time, he had stated, “It was one of those things … and I so regretted any embarrassment that it caused Catherine,” adding, “We had a little bump in the road.” He also confessed his love for the actress during the interview, adding, “The problem in this business is that everything is so public. I love Catherine as much, more than I ever have. And hopefully the feeling’s mutual. We worked things out—if both people want to work something out and make it better, you can do it. You can’t do it if it’s just one person.”Jones and Douglas met for the first time in August 1998 at the Deauville Film Festival in France, after which they reconnected after a while and then started dating. The two later tied the knot in an intimate wedding on November 18, 2000. The couple has two children: Dylan, 26, and daughter Carys, 23.
