Two students held after clash at UoH | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Gachibowli police have registered two cases following a clash between student groups on the University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus on Friday, allegedly due to disputes related to the recently concluded student union elections. Two students sustained injuries in the clashes, and police arrested two research scholars.Police said the first case was registered under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the BNS against a research scholar affiliated with the ABVP, based on a complaint lodged by a student who is an SFI supporter. According to the complaint, at around 1:50 am on Friday, the victim was walking near the university’s north shopping complex when he was attacked by the accused. “The victim alleged that the accused tried to strangle him with a belt due to disputes related to recently concluded student union elections. Friends and university security personnel intervened and rescued him,” Gachibowli inspector K Saidulu said.Police said the accused research scholar also allegedly assaulted a girl student with an iron stand, causing her injuries. Police arrested him at Masjid Banda near UoH campus on Friday afternoon. “The injured are out of danger,” the inspector said. In a counter complaint filed by a student affiliated with ABVP, Gachibowli police booked three research scholars who are supporters of SFI and arrested one of them.“The counter complaint alleged that SFI supporters trespassed into the complainant’s hostel and assaulted them. We have registered a case under Section 331 (6) (Lurking house-trespass or housebreaking by night after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint) of the BNS and arrested one student,” the inspector said. Both the arrested students were remanded in judicial custody.
