Hyderabad: Semiconductor design company Spintronics AI Semiconductors has signed a memorandum of understanding with CSIR-Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI) to advance production-ready gallium nitride technology and examine the feasibility of an indigenous GaN fabrication facility in India, the Hyderabad-based company said on Thursday. The partnership is aimed at creating a technology and design transfer framework between the company and CSIR-CEERI, a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. Spintronics AI said it is the first Indian company to enter such a GaN-focused partnership with the institute. The collaboration will evaluate technology needs, infrastructure requirements, fabrication capabilities and possible routes for building domestic GaN semiconductor capacity. It will also seek to move advanced GaN research, process know-how and device design from the laboratory into an industry-led manufacturing ecosystem.GaN is considered a key next-generation semiconductor material for defence, aerospace, space systems, satellite communications, radio-frequency communications, telecom networks, power electronics and electric mobility. Spintronics and CSIR-CEERI said their partnership aligns with India Semiconductor Mission and the Atmanirbhar Bharat push for domestic technology development.Dr Manish Mathew, Scientist F and head of the diamond research group at CSIR-CEERI, said the collaboration will combine the institute’s two decades of GaN device expertise with Spintronics AI’s product-development capabilities to accelerate domestic manufacturing and semiconductor self-reliance in the country.Raghu Varma, founder and CEO, Spintronics AI Semiconductors, said India’s GaN semiconductor market is expected to grow from about $224 million in 2026 to nearly $1.88 billion by 2033, creating opportunities in power, RF, telecom, defence, space and automotive applications.Spintronics AI Semiconductors, which was founded in 2024, is an emerging semiconductor design house focused on advancing next-generation semiconductor technologies, proprietary IP and products from India for global markets. The Hyderabad-headquartered company has operations across India, Canada, Europe and the USA. It combines expertise in analogue, mixed-signal, RF and power semiconductor design with a portfolio of proprietary GaN-based products.
