Hyderabad: BRS leader M Krishank has alleged that the Hyderabad police booked him under the colonial-era Police (Incitement to Disaffection) Act, 1922, despite the legislation having been repealed by Parliament in 2023.Krishank referred to a notice he received from social media platform X, informing him that the city police had sought details of his account, @Krishank_BRS, in connection with a criminal case registered against him on Sept 17 under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3 of the Police (Incitement to Disaffection) Act.
On Saturday, Krishank posted on X that a British-era law once used against Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and repealed by Parliament in 2023 had been invoked against him.When contacted, Central Crime Station DCP S Chaitanya Kumar said: “We are verifying the allegations of a repealed Act being used. We are looking into it.”The case was registered by Nampally police based on a complaint filed by N Shankar Reddy, president of the Hyderabad city police officers association.According to the complaint, Krishank posted on X about events allegedly linked to Saifabad police station. “In the said post, Krishank alleged that an IPS officer from a particular state had put pressure on Task Force personnel to wear masks and attack the PA and PRO of a BRS leader who were at the Saifabad PS in relation to a case booked against them. He also alleged that since no cops agreed to do so, 15 masked men from a local area affiliated to a particular political party were roped in and an ACP rank officer seeking extension of service had been entrusted with the job of facilitating the entry and exit of the 15 men in and out of the PS,” the complainant alleged.Terming the allegations false, the complainant sought legal action against Krishank. “Such posts have the tendency to promote feelings of enmity or ill-will between different regional groups and affect public harmony. The allegations were circulated in the backdrop of four cases registered at Saifabad PS against several BRS party leaders. Thus, Krishank, by circulating the aforesaid statements on social media, committed acts intended or likely to cause disaffection among members of the police force and interfere with the ongoing investigation,” the complaint stated.Based on the complaint, Nampally police registered the case on Sept 17.
