Hyderabad: A 40-year-old private employee from Hastinapuram was duped of Rs 3.73 crore by cyber fraudsters in an online stock market investment scam. The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) registered a case and launched a probe.The victim told TGCSB headquarters police that he received a message in Dec 2025 containing a link promoting stock market investments. After clicking it, he received a call from a man identifying himself as Joshi, who promised high returns within six to eight months.On Joshi’s instructions, the victim created an account on a website and began transferring money to different bank accounts from Jan 2026 for stock investments.“The website displayed all my transactions and accumulated bonuses, giving me an illusion of security,” the victim said. When he tried to withdraw the money, he was told that a substantial portion of his bonus would be forfeited if he exited before the maturity period. He therefore continued investing.The victim said all communication with the fraudsters took place through the website’s chatbot. When the website stopped functioning on Sept 17, he realised he had been cheated.He lodged a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal on September 21. TGCSB registered a case on Thursday under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the BNS and Section 66-D of the IT Act.
