Hyderabad: A demand for ₹10,000 from students, threats of failing them if they did not pay and warnings of serious consequences if they ignored his messages have landed a contract lecturer of the Govt Degree College in Medak in trouble, with an internal inquiry finding substance in the allegations.The zoology lecturer, M Vinod Kumar, has been working on contract at the college for the past 12 years.A fact-finding committee constituted by college principal K Hussain conducted an inquiry into the allegations on Tuesday. The committee comprised the vice-principal, two senior lecturers and two women faculty members. It recorded statements from the four students as well as Vinod Kumar.According to the principal, the allegations made by the students were found to be true during the inquiry. “The committee has conducted an inquiry and recorded the statements of the students and the lecturer. The allegations made by the students were found to be true. The report has been sent to the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education for further action,” Hussain told TOI.During the inquiry, Vinod Kumar reportedly admitted that he had made a mistake and sought another opportunity, assuring the committee that such an incident would not be repeated.Meanwhile, the college has initiated a separate inquiry into an interaction between another lecturer and a former student. The issue dates back to June but came to the college authorities’ notice only recently.According to the principal, the degree-passed student had cleared her Telugu subject after a year and messaged the concerned lecturer informing him that she had passed. She reportedly offered to host a biryani party to celebrate. The lecturer replied to the message, following which the student took offence, the principal said.As the matter was brought to the principal’s notice, a separate committee was constituted to examine the exchange and the circumstances surrounding it. The inquiry is still under way, and no final finding has been made in the matter.“The second matter is still under inquiry. We will take a decision after the committee completes its proceedings,” Hussain said.
