Hyderabad: Two persons allegedly involved in conning people on the pretext of multiplying currency notes were arrested by Miyapur police on Saturday.The accused, Toure El Hadji Mahaman and Tchouanyou Adolphe, both Mali nationals, were residing in Attapur and making a living there.On July 20, Krishna Kanth, a resident of Miyapur, lodged a complaint alleging that he was duped by the accused, who lured him with promises of multiplying currency notes using chemical powder.“After demonstrating a fake currency multiplication trick using black papers and chemicals, the accused dishonestly induced the complainant to hand over ₹20 lakh. The accused packed the cash in a box and instructed the complainant not to open it until they returned to the same place with a special chemical.

When the complainant later opened the box, he found only white sheets and coloured photocopy papers instead of the cash,” police said.“The accused adopted a well-planned fake currency multiplication scam by targeting victims through repeated phone calls from foreign mobile numbers,” police said.During the demonstration, the accused immersed black papers in a chemical solution and produced what appeared to be genuine currency notes to gain the confidence of victims.Police seized ₹10 lakh in cash and US dollars from the accused.
