Throughout his lifetime, after falling in love with the area when he was stationed in California’s Fort Ord, Eastwood bought multiple homes there; however, there is one residence that stood out amongst it all.Las Ondas, which is a stunning mansion located only a block away from Carmel Beach, was one of his most popular and beloved properties. In 1981, Clint Eastwood bought his beloved home in Carmel-by-the-Sea
The ‘Rawhide’ star, who had fallen in love with the Monterey Bay area, bought the beloved mansion in 1981 and stayed there till 1996. Known as Las Ondas, which translates to ‘the waves,’ is a century-old, Spanish Revival-style estate, which was built all the way back in 1924, as reported by Architectural Digest. In the 1993 interview with the outlet, the actor candidly shared that after getting stationed in the region, he fell in love with the life there.He shared, “The first time I saw the place, I thought it was terrific. Visually it was something else, and I thought it was the place I’d like to call home. So I kind of adopted Carmel.” Eastwood originally bought his first major property in Los Angeles due to his work in the Hollywood industry. He and his first wife, Maggie Johnson, first lived in a shared apartment space and paid rent; however, in 1959 they moved to 3512 Beverly Glen Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. This was his first major purchase, though they sold the house around the same time that their divorce was finalized, and the sale was made officially in 1983.

The property has a total of four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and a powder room across three levels. Galerie Magazine reported that the entire home has been built from Carmel stone and a clay tile roof and is surrounded by native wildlife and greenery, offering residents a stunning view all day long.The space also included its own private courtyard that is lined with tall stone walls and a fire pit, while also offering a spacious foyer. The home is filled to the brim with dark and contrasting themes, including mahogany wood beams and doors, cherry wood floors, plastered walls, window trims, and staircases, as well as built-in shelving. The home also has a lot of ocean-facing balconies, with the main suite having its own private access balcony too. Lastly, it also has a temperature-controlled wine cellar, a media room, and a detached two-car stone garage. The redesign of the house was done in 1998 by the new owners.

One of the biggest moments of Eastwood’s life was when he joined politics while living at his Carmel home and ran for the position of mayor. He won the election and served as mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, on April 8, 1986. He ran against Charlotte Townsen and won after 71% of the votes were cast in his favor.

The actor sold the property in 1996, after spending more than 15 years in the residence for USD 2.5 million.
In 1996, the actor was finally ready to part ways with the property. While it was never made public how much he spent on buying the home originally, he did make quite a bit of profit while selling it off. After putting the home on the real estate market, The San Francisco Chronicle reported that he sold the property to retired investor Frederick O’Such for approximately USD 2.25 million.After the purchase, the retired investor spent about two years and an additional USD 2.5 million renovating and upgrading the property to his liking, including structural updates and earthquake retrofitting. After owning the property, he put it on the market in 2024, after his wife’s passing, since he wished to downsize. He listed the property for USD 21 million at the time.
