Hyderabad: Alwal police have arrested eight people on charges of repeatedly raping a 16-year-old Intermediate student at different locations in the city after allegedly forcing her to smoke cigarettes laced with ganja.The girl’s ordeal began near Bollarum railway station on Sept 9 at the hands of an acquaintance and allegedly continued till the next day. The alleged assaults took place at an accused’s house in Bollarum, a hotel in Dhulapally and inside an empty coach of a stationary train at Medchal railway station.The survivor finally escaped from the clutches of her alleged abusers on Sept 10 evening and approached Alwal police, leading to a Pocso case and the arrests. A ninth man named in the complaint is absconding.“Around 6 am on Sept 9, the survivor left home in a huff after being reprimanded by her father. She reached Bollarum station where she met the first accused, an acquaintance. He called another friend, who offered her a cigarette mixed with ganja. After the girl smoked it, one of the accused took her to an isolated spot near the station and allegedly raped her,” said a police officer from Alwal, quoting from the complaint.Later that day, the survivor alleged assaults by other two friends of the acquaintance at the home of one of the accused and a hotel under the influence of the drug.The alleged abuse continued on Sept 10 when two of the accused forced her to consume ganja with them. When she tried to escape, they allegedly caught her and took her to Medchal station and assaulted her again inside the empty train coach.The suspects allegedly took the girl later by train to Malkajgiri and Dhoolpet to procure more drugs. “It was from there that the survivor managed to escape in an autorickshaw and reach home in Alwal. Initial probe indicates some of these accused are men the survivor befriended through social media,” the police officer said.The investigation has also brought to light allegations of sexual abuse involving six of the accused over the past one-and-a-half years.Deputy commissioner of police (Malkajgiri) Ch Sridhar said the probe was also on to identify and track down those allegedly supplying ganja to the accused.
