Kareena Kapoor Khan is particular about how much screen time her sons, Taimur and Jeh, get. The actor admitted that she can become “hyper” when it comes to her children’s use of phones and other digital devices, even as husband Saif Ali Khan takes a more relaxed approach.At the 16th edition of Expresso, Kareena opened up about parenting her two sons and the challenges of keeping them away from screens in an increasingly digital world.

Kareena Kapoor says Taimur and Jeh don’t have phones of their own

Talking about her sons’ access to smartphones, Kareena revealed that neither Taimur nor Jeh has a phone of his own. However, Taimur apparently considers his nanny’s phone to be his.“They do not have access to phones. Taimur’s nanny has a phone which he insists is his phone. I said, ‘It’s not your phone.’ He asked if he can tell his friends that it’s his phone, but I denied,” Kareena said.The actor admitted that she keeps a close watch on their screen habits, particularly when they are playing games. “I am hyper about the whole digital thing, but then he points out that ‘you and abba also talk on the phone.’ When they are playing games all day, I literally have to snatch phones from their hands.”

Saif Ali Khan takes a more relaxed approach to screen time

Kareena also opened up about how differently she and Saif approach parenting when it comes to their children’s screen time. While she tends to worry when the boys spend too much time on devices, Saif often encourages her to take a calmer approach.“Saif feels that I am too hyper and I need to relax, but I tell him that I need to be hyper about this. So, this is the only thing that we probably argue about,” she said.Kareena added that she wants to hold on to her sons’ childhood for as long as possible. “I just want to keep them still as small as possible… forever,” she said.

Kareena Kapoor is concerned about AI and technology

The actor also expressed concerns about the wider impact of technology, particularly artificial intelligence, on children. While acknowledging that keeping up with technological changes is necessary, Kareena said she does not want her sons to be exposed to them at an unsafe level.“I want to move with time, but not at a dangerous level. If it is going to be that, then we have to find a way around it,” she said.Kareena admitted that she feels “paranoid” about some aspects of AI because her children are still young. “Right now, my children are really small and I am paranoid about it. I am a mother, they are 9 and 5, and certain things about AI disturb me.”She also suggested that there needs to be a balanced approach towards emerging technology, with restrictions where necessary. “We need to find a way – ban certain things and use it for certain things.”
