Sebastian Stan says ‘The Batman: Part II’ feels like making ‘The Godfather Part II’; confident film with Robert Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson is ‘going to be a payoff’ |

Sebastian Stan is the latest Marvel superhero crossing over into the DCEU with his turn in the upcoming film ‘The Batman: Part 2’. The actor who will be seen playing the role of Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier in the upcoming film ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, will now gear up to tap into his dark side once again to play Harvey Dent aka Two Face.
Sebastian Stan on filming ‘The Batman: Part II’
While his role in Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated ‘The Batman: Part II’ has not been officially confirmed, the actor has revealed that he has been spending time around the film’s world and, in his latest interview with Variety, showered praise for what the director is building. Speaking about the film, Stan compared the superhero sequel to one of cinema’s most celebrated films – ‘The Godfather Part II’.“I go to set sometimes and I look around and I’m like, I think we’re making f*****g ‘Godfather Part Two,’” Stan said of the film, which he noted Reeves has spent three years shaping. “I really don’t want to raise it up, but I do feel like it’s going to be a payoff.”
Sebastian Stan on repeating roles
In the chat, the actor stopped short of confirming whether he is playing the iconic Gotham City prosecutor, but he did share how he got about landing a role in the film. The actor, who also won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for ‘A Different Man’, said he is increasingly drawn to roles that allow him to challenge himself rather than repeat what audiences have already seen him do. “One, I’m chasing the opportunity to offer something different. I’ve become allergic to repeating myself. Actors are so overexposed at this point — whether you’re on social media or not, everything is personal, everyone wants to know everything. It makes the job harder, because people want to see you play one thing. I don’t care as much what it is, as long as it lets me offer something new,” Stan said.“If that’s paired with a topic that’s relevant, it becomes even more undeniable. As you get older, you want to do something that can stand the test of time, that’s a conversation starter about the relevant issues we’re dealing with. We’re not doctors; we’re not on the front lines. This is the only way we get to communicate.”
Sebastian Stan grew up watching ‘Batman’
Stan also opened up about his connection to the Caped Crusader, revealing, “My favorite superhero movie is ‘Batman Returns’ – I remember exactly where I saw it, over Christmas. I didn’t see the original first. It was Michelle Pfeiffer, Danny DeVito and I was obsessed with that movie. I also, shamefully, really like ‘Batman Forever’ – I love the Riddler, I love Jim Carrey…”When asked about Tommy Lee Jones’ performance as Two Face in the film, he paused before admitting, “He’s an amazing actor. I don’t quite know. In that movie, Jim Carrey overshadowed him.”Revealing why he harboured a liking towards Batman over the Marvel heroes, he said, “Growing up in Europe, Batman was the most recognizable thing to me. So when the MCU came first, it opened a door to comics I didn’t grow up with and I thought, well, that’s it, there’s no way I can get to the other side. No one’s going to hire me; I’ll be Bucky.”
