Revanth Reddy Should Take Responsibility for Police Action Against Women MLAs: KTR | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao demanded that chief minister A Revanth Reddy, both as CM and also home minister, to take full responsibility for the alleged attack and high-handed behaviour by police against women legislators, former ministers and senior legislators at assembly on Monday. KTR alleged that the police behaved in an extremely aggressive manner, including allegedly pulling the sarees of women MLAs, grabbing them by the throat and pulling their hair. He said the manner in which the police treated the women legislators was deplorable.Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, the BRS working president criticised the Congress govt, saying that while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi speaks about overcoming male dominance in politics and encouraging women to come forward, the Congress govt in Telangana was allegedly allowing women legislators to be attacked. He alleged that the CM was attempting to divert public attention from the incident by raising unrelated issues and attributing statements to BRS MLC T. Madhusudhan (Tata Madhu) that he allegedly did not make.He said Congress MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, had previously worn similar T-shirts and raised slogans inside parliament without being prevented from doing so. He questioned why different rules appeared to be applied in Telangana. “Are there one set of rules for Rahul Gandhi and another for us?” KTR asked, demanding clarity from the speaker.KTR alleged that CM was also an MLA and therefore should be treated like any other member of the house. He urged the speaker to remember that, although the CM is the Leader of the House, he does not enjoy special legislative privileges over other MLAs. He said the opposition had been entrusted by the people with the responsibility of questioning the government, exposing alleged corruption and highlighting public problems.KTR recalled an earlier incident involving D.K. Aruna, saying that when she was hurt by certain remarks, former CM KCR had instructed BRS leaders to apologise. He said this reflected their political culture.He also recalled instances in which KCR had defended Sonia Gandhi when BJP chief ministers allegedly made inappropriate remarks about her. The BRS working president said it was ironic for Revanth Reddy to speak about Assembly traditions and values, given his own alleged conduct and statements.KTR said the BRS had approached the High Court over the alleged attack on its legislators. He said the party would also approach the SC, ST, National Human Rights and National Commission for Women authorities regarding the alleged conduct of the police.He said the BRS would continue its fight until action was taken against those responsible for the alleged attack on the women legislators.ends/
