US mom hanged 2-year-old son after discussing Lindsay Clancy case with friends, called him ‘anti-Christ’

A US mother who allegedly killed her 2-year-old son had been discussing the high-profile Lindsay Clancy case with friends just hours before the child was found dead.Corie Walsh, 38, faces three counts of first-degree murder after her son Barrett, who was also known as “Bear”, was found hanging in the basement of the family home, FOX 32 reported.A neighbour discovered the boy with his feet off the ground and a ligature around his neck and called 911. The neighbour told emergency operators that Walsh had no pulse while CPR was being performed.Paramedics pronounced Barrett dead at the scene. An autopsy later determined that he died from asphyxiation.Police also found Walsh in a bathtub, fully clothed and in bloody water. She was taken to hospital after officers determined that she had attempted to harm herself. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the court proffer viewed by the outlet.Prosecutors allege Walsh later told investigators that she killed Barrett because she believed he was the “anti-Christ” and the “devil”. While she was receiving medical treatment, she also described how the killing allegedly occurred.The case has drawn attention to Walsh’s conversations about Clancy, a Massachusetts mother and nurse whose trial was underway when Barrett died. Clancy was accused of killing her three children before attempting suicide and argued that she had been suffering from postpartum psychosis. After more than 30 hours of deliberations over nearly seven days, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict, and on Friday, the judge declared a mistrial.According to prosecutors, Walsh exchanged messages with friends about the Clancy case at about 12:30 pm on Tuesday, roughly three hours before Barrett was found.Walsh’s husband was out of town when the alleged killing occurred and returned home by plane later that evening.Walsh was taken to the hospital after the incident and will be transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility once she is medically cleared. She is expected to await a detention hearing there.
