The Telugu romance drama ‘Romanchakam’ has hit the big screens today, September 3. Directed by Venu Gopal Reddy, the film stars Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Sanilkumar in the lead roles, which is backed by ‘Animal’ fame Sandeep Reddy Vanga and brother Pranay Reddy Vanga. The initial reactions from viewers are now coming in on social media.

Netizens praise the fun and friendship in ‘Romanchakam’

Not everyone was impressed with the film. One reviewer felt that the story becomes predictable and the main conflict does not have enough strength. “The film starts with a familiar friends-gang setup, but the fun never really takes off. The first half has a few decent moments, though the writing feels predictable. The latter half delivers better laughs, but the main conflict isn’t strong enough to carry the story.”

The same reviewer also said that Sumanth is decent, while Ananthika does not get enough to perform. Another viewer wrote, “Weak Story. Movie starts with a decent setup & some relatable youth moments but the story loses its grip as it moves forward. The second-half conflict feels forced & lacks a convincing reason.”

Film receives mixed reactions to the writing

Another viewer felt that the film has an interesting modern setup but does not use it well. “The film clearly knows the vibe it wants…youthful, contemporary, chaotic and slightly quirky. The dating-app setup, startup backdrop and the attempt to make the comedy unconventional all have potential. But the writing never really brings these elements together.”
