Princess Diana’s godson Prince Philippos and Princess Nina welcome first child, son Kimon Thomas Konstantinos, via surrogate in the US nearly six years after their wedding
Prince Philippos and Princess Nina of Greece have become parents for the first time, welcoming a baby boy via surrogate earlier this summer in the United States. The former Greek royal family announced the arrival on September 1, revealing that their son, Kimon Thomas Konstantinos, was born on July 27, 2026. The couple had not previously disclosed that they were expecting a child.According to Hello Magazine, a statement from the office of the former Royal Family of Greece said Philippos and Nina were announcing “with great joy” the birth of their first child and expressed their gratitude to the surrogate mother, her family and the medical professionals who supported them throughout the journey.“Philip and Nina are enjoying these first precious weeks together with Kimonas and are deeply happy to begin, together with their son, this new chapter in their family’s life,” the statement added.
Son’s name pays tribute to both families
The baby’s middle names carry special significance for the couple. “Thomas” honours Nina’s father, Swiss businessman and VistaJet founder Thomas Flohr, while “Konstantinos” is believed to pay tribute to Philippos’ late father, Constantine II, the last King of Greece, who died in 2023.No photographs of the newborn have been shared publicly so far.Philippos, 40, is the youngest child of Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie of Denmark. He was born in London and raised there before moving to the United States, where he has worked as a financial analyst.Nina, 39, is the daughter of billionaire businessman Thomas Flohr and is known for founding Kisawa Sanctuary and her work in conservation and hospitality.
Couple’s three weddings before becoming parents
The birth comes less than four months before Philippos and Nina’s sixth wedding anniversary.The couple first married in a private civil ceremony in St. Moritz, Switzerland, in December 2020. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, only their fathers attended as witnesses.Nina later shared a photograph from the ceremony on Instagram with the caption, “Just married (civilly).”They subsequently held a second, low-key celebration in Cambridgeshire in May 2021 before exchanging vows for a third time in a lavish religious ceremony at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens in October 2021.For the Athens wedding, Nina wore a Chanel gown and the Antique Corsage Tiara that had belonged to her mother-in-law, Queen Anne-Marie.The ceremony was attended by several prominent members of European royalty and society, including Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, and members of the Greek and Danish royal families.

Philippos has strong connections to the British royal family. He was one of the godchildren of the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and his late father, Constantine II, was a close friend of King Charles and the godfather of Prince William.Philippos was born in 1986 at St Mary’s Hospital in London and grew up in a 13-bedroom home near Hampstead Heath. Former Greek royals regained citizenship in 2024
Philippos’ new status as a father comes after an important development for the former Greek royal family.In 2024, Philippos and other members of his family had their Greek citizenship reinstated after being stripped of it in 1994 during a long-running dispute over former royal property and the family’s relationship with the Greek state.Following the restoration of their nationality, members of the family adopted the surname “De Grece”, meaning “of Greece” in French.The family’s Greek citizenship had been revoked decades after the monarchy was abolished in a 1974 referendum. Constantine II and his family subsequently lived in exile for years, with the former king eventually returning to Greece as a private citizen.The citizenship restoration applied to 10 members of the former royal family, including Constantine II and Anne-Marie’s five children and five grandchildren.
A growing European royal family connection
Philippos’ siblings include Crown Prince Pavlos, Prince Nikolaos and Princesses Alexia and Theodora. Pavlos and his wife, Marie-Chantal, have five children, including Odysseas-Kimon, who shares part of the name now given to Philippos’ newborn son.Philippos’ extended family also includes Queen Sofia of Spain, his paternal aunt and the mother of Spain’s King Felipe VI, as well as members of the Danish royal family through his mother, Queen Anne-Marie.With the arrival of Kimon Thomas Konstantinos, Philippos and Nina now begin a new chapter as parents, nearly six years after their first wedding.
