Neha Dhupia on not getting her due in Bollywood: ‘Maybe I didn’t put out this signal’

Neha Dhupia is set to make her international film debut with ’52 Blue’, directed by Egyptian filmmaker Ali El Arabi. In the film, Dhupia plays Lakshmi, the mother of a young man whose biggest dream is to meet football legend Lionel Messi at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

On whether she got her due in Bollywood

In conversation with News18, Neha Dhupia opened up about whether she feels she received her due in the industry. She said, “I love this business. I honestly have nothing against the business. I love the industry. I don’t know anything else. I’ve never done anything else in my life. I feel like it’s a combination of lack of opportunity plus opportunities not created by me either. Sometimes before blaming what’s going on on the outside, you’ve got to look within. Maybe I didn’t put out this signal.”

Neha Dhupia on comparing herself to other actors

Neha Dhupia also spoke about how comparison can create a false sense of failure, especially in an industry like Bollywood. She revealed she has consciously stopped doing that. She said, “When you start feeling that you’re not successful, it’s when you start comparing yourself to other people. The one thing that I stopped doing is comparing myself. And I feel my success lies in that. For a very long time, I was comparing. ‘No, no, I’m not this. I haven’t done that.’ A lot of people will be like, ‘But you’ve done so much.’ It’s the comparison that makes you feel unsuccessful. The day you realise that your success lies in completely different places and you stop comparing yourself, that’s when things change.”

More about ’52 Blue’

’52 Blue’ had its North American premiere at the Washington, DC International Film Festival on April 19, 2026, and later opened the London Indian Film Festival with its European premiere at BFI Southbank on July 9. The film has also been selected for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

Busy 2026 for Neha Dhupia

Neha Dhupia has had a packed year, returning as a gang leader on ‘Roadies XX: Double Cross’. She is also currently hosting a celebrity chat show alongside her husband, Angad Bedi.
