The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has opened the online registration window for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 today, August 27. Candidates aspiring to appear for the national-level entrance examination will be able to submit their applications through the official GATE 2027 website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The registration schedule has been revised this year. The application process was originally scheduled to begin on August 14 but was deferred. Under the revised timeline, candidates will have until September 27 to complete their applications without a late fee.

GATE 2027 registration to be linked with DigiLocker

One of the major changes introduced for GATE 2027 is the mandatory use of DigiLocker during registration. Candidates will be required to use their DigiLocker accounts as part of the application process.Several details, including the candidate’s name, date of birth, mobile number, email address, profile photograph, address, and verified identity card number, will be fetched automatically from DigiLocker.IIT Madras has advised applicants to create their DigiLocker accounts or ensure that their existing accounts are updated before beginning the GATE registration process. Candidates should also make sure that the information available in their DigiLocker records is accurate to avoid difficulties while submitting the application.

GATE 2027 exam to be held on six dates

IIT Madras will conduct GATE 2027 on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. The examination will cover 30 papers.The institute has also added a new test paper this year — Robotics and Automation (RA). Candidates planning to appear for the examination can check the list of available papers and download the syllabus for their chosen paper from the official GATE 2027 website.The introduction of Robotics and Automation as a separate paper comes at a time when the field is expanding across manufacturing, engineering, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and other technology-driven sectors.

The regular registration window will remain open from August 27 to September 27. Candidates who miss this deadline will get another opportunity during the extended registration period until October 5, but they will have to pay an additional late fee.

GATE 2027: Application fees

The application fee varies according to the candidate’s category and the period in which the form is submitted.For candidates applying during the regular registration period, the fee is Rs 2,000 for unreserved candidates. Female candidates and those belonging to the SC, ST and PwD categories will have to pay Rs 1,000.During the extended registration period, the fee will increase to Rs 2,500 for unreserved candidates, while female and SC, ST, and PwD candidates will have to pay Rs 1,500.Candidates are therefore advised to complete the application process within the regular deadline to avoid the additional financial burden associated with late registration.
