Hyderabad: Forum for Good Governance (FGG) has urged chief minister A Revanth Reddy to immediately appoint a chairperson and members to the Municipal Building Tribunal (MBT) and make it functional to curb unauthorised constructions.In a letter to the CM on Tuesday, FGG president M Padmanabha Reddy said unauthorised structures were affecting planned development and putting occupants and neighbours at risk by violating building and fire safety norms.“Whenever municipal authorities issue notices for demolition, builders approach courts and obtain stay orders. A tribunal is necessary to check unauthorised constructions at the initial stage and ensure speedy disposal of cases,” he said.Padmanabha Reddy said the tribunal was constituted in 2016, but its chairperson and members had not been appointed. FGG filed a PIL in 2019, following which the high court in April 2022 directed the state to complete the process within four weeks. “Till date, no action has been taken and the matter has been pending for nearly 10 years,” he said.FGG suggested appointing a retired district judge as chairperson and a serving senior town planning officer as technical member. It also urged the govt to call for a fresh list of eligible candidates, citing vigilance and other cases against some earlier nominees.
