Maharashtra Admissions 2026: Colleges Must Follow Inter-Se Merit for Vacant Seats; CET Cell Issues Guidelines for Students
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has issued instructions for institutions, students and parents regarding admissions to seats remaining vacant after the completion of Centralised Admission Process (CAP) rounds and seats to be filled at the institute level. The notice lays down the procedure colleges must follow for institute-level admissions and merit-based selection.Under the guidelines, colleges will have to conduct institute-level admissions strictly in accordance with Rule 13 of the relevant information brochure and only after completion of all CAP rounds. Admissions to such seats will be based on the Inter-Se Merit of eligible candidates. The CET Cell has also warned students and parents against agents, intermediaries and unauthorised persons claiming to secure seats.Colleges must follow Rule 13The CET Cell has made it mandatory for colleges to follow Rule 13 of the information brochure while conducting the institute-level admission process.The institute-level process can begin only after all CAP rounds have been completed. Colleges must prepare admissions on the basis of the Inter-Se Merit of candidates rather than through any unauthorised or informal process.Institutions have also been directed to publish their rules, procedures and information brochure or prospectus for institute-level admissions on their official websites.Students can apply directly to collegesCandidates interested in institute-level seats may apply directly to the respective college, according to the notice.Where direct applications are not feasible, candidates can submit the institute-level Option Form through their CAP portal login. Colleges will then have to consider the applications received along with the list of students provided by the CET Cell while preparing the official merit list.The merit list must be displayed on the college notice board and published on the institution’s official website.Admissions must be recorded on CAP portalOnce an institute-level admission is confirmed, the concerned college is required to immediately record the admission on the CAP portal.The requirement is intended to ensure that admissions made against vacant or institute-level seats remain part of the official admission record and can be monitored through the prescribed system.Students and parents should therefore ensure that any institute-level admission is completed through the procedure specified by the college and the CET Cell.CET Cell warns against agents and misleading claimsThe CET Cell has specifically cautioned students and parents against inducements offered by agents, middlemen or other individuals claiming that they can secure institute-level seats.Candidates have also been advised to remain cautious about false or misleading information circulated through social media links, private counsellors and other unauthorised sources.The authority has urged students and parents not to rely on rumours or unofficial information and to verify admission-related details only through the official website of the CET Cell or the concerned institution.Merit-based admissions after CAP roundsThe guidelines emphasise that institute-level admissions are to be conducted only after the CAP rounds and through the prescribed merit-based process. Colleges are responsible for making their procedures and merit lists publicly available and for updating confirmed admissions on the CAP portal.The CET Cell said that all institutions, students and parents must follow the prescribed instructions to ensure transparency, merit-based selection and compliance with admission regulations.
