Telangana to set up task force for strengthening polytechnic education | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Telangana govt will set up a joint coordination task force comprising representatives of key technical education bodies, polytechnic lecturers and other stakeholders to oversee the proposed administrative restructuring of polytechnic education, power and labour minister Vivek Venkatswamy said on Thursday.The task force will include representatives from the State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Young India Skills University (YISU) and polytechnic lecturers. It will prepare a comprehensive implementation roadmap and address concerns and suggestions from students, faculty, employees and joint action committee representatives, the minister said.Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, Vivek said the restructuring was aimed at strengthening polytechnic education, aligning skill training with industry requirements and improving employment opportunities for students.He said the govt had issued GO 97 on June 16, 2026, bringing polytechnics under the Commissionerate of Employment and Training (CET) from the Commissionerate of Technical Education (CTE). The move was only an administrative restructuring and was not intended to weaken polytechnic education or alter its identity, he said.Vivek said the existing three-year, AICTE-recognised diploma courses would continue without any change in duration, recognition or academic structure. The fees fixed by the govt would also remain unchanged, with no additional financial burden on students or parents.SBTET will be reorganised into two divisions, with the polytechnic wing functioning as a separate unit under CET. Polytechnic admissions, examinations, diploma examinations and other academic matters will continue under the new arrangement, he said.The minister also sought to allay concerns among employees, saying the existing cadre strength and number of posts in the polytechnic wing would be retained and there would be no job cuts.He said additional recruitment and promotion opportunities would be created in the administrative and teaching wings of YISU, potentially opening up more career avenues for polytechnic employees.
